Two
Days Tamil Computing Workshop for Corporation Scholl
Teachers - 2008
Dr Avvai Natarajan presided over
the function. He talked about the need for supporting
the software development in Tamil. Worshipful Mayor
of Chennai Corporation Thiru M. Subramanian was the
Chief Guest. He spoke about the improvements happening
in the Corporation Schools. Two CDs entitled Amuthae
Thamizhe, by Pebbles, and distributed by Dove MultiMedia
were released by the Mayor. Dr Avvai Natarajan received
the first copy. Thiru M Anto Peter, Softview Computers
and President of KaniThamiz Sangam informed the gathering
about the aim of this two day seminar cum demonstraion.
Tmt. SasiRekha, (member of Kani thamizh Sangam) from
Kaanthalakam compeared the proceedings.
Three
day Conference and Expo on Tamil Computer Print - 2007
Kanithamizh
Sangam has conducted a three day grand Expo and Conference
on Tamil, Computer and Print on 2nd, 3rd
and 4th of February at Valluvar Kottam, Chennai.
Honorable Minister Paruthi Ilamvazhuthi inaugurated
the function. Mr.Anandakrishnan is the chief guest of
the day. On day two, discussions on Language computing
and Digital Printing are happened. Mr.A.Mohan of NIC
and Mr.Sivagnanam of SISI is presided over the function.
On day three, Valedictory Function on the ceremony is
conducted. Ms.Betroshi
J.Ho and Dr.P.R.Nakeeran are the chief guests of the
day.
New Year 2007
Our New Years Eve is celebrated with Mr.Arun Mahizhnan.
He is the Director of International Forum for Information Technology in
Tamil. All the members of Kanithamizh Sangam are participated in the
meet. The venue is at Vishwak Solutions, Chennai-17.
Sangam's Annual Meet & Felicitation - 2006
Kanithamizh sangam's annual meet is took place at
Andhra club, T.Nagar on 20th September, 2006. Tamil Virtual University's
Director Mr. Nakeeran is honoured and felicitated in the ceremony.
National conference on Mobile computing and
Standardization - 2006
On 22nd July Kanithamizh Sangam conducted a
National conference on Mobile Computing and Standardization. This
conference is inaugurated by Mr.AtulAnand IAS. Chief guests participated
in the conference are Dr.M.Anandakrishnan, Mr.A.Mohan, NIC, Dr.C.Xavier,
Mr.MVM and Kanithamizh Sangam members. A book on the conference also
released.
Tamil Computing Awareness Workshop for Schools - 2006
Tamil Computing awareness workshop for schools is
conducted on 1st July 2006 at Chettiyar hall, Alwarpet for
school teachers. Dr.M.Rajendran inaugurates this function and many
teachers (70 Schools) are participated in the workshop. The objective of
the workshop is to create language-computing awareness among the
schools. Dr. V.Sankaranarayanan, M.Anto Peter and Dr.V.Krishnamurthy are
given lectures and free CDs are distributed for the participated
teachers.
Workshop on Tamil computing Technology - 2006
Kanithamizh Sangam conducted Workshop on Tamil
computing Technology on February 25th at KSR Auditorium of Meenakshi
Engineering College for Engineering college students.
This workshop is jointly compiled with Tamil Virtual
University. The workshop is inaugurated by Dr.R.Bhaskaran. IAS. Tamil
virtual University director Dr.V.Sankaranarayan presided over the
function. Speeches are given by Mr.Hari Ram, Mr. Mohan (NIC), Dr.T.V.Geetha,
Mr.M.Anto Peter, Mr.T.N.C.VenkatRangan (Microsoft) , Mr.DuraiPondi (Open Source),
Mr.N.Guhan (HR) , Mr.Rangarajan (Webdunia) Mr.C.Ananthan. Kaniyam 2004 awards are
given by the Chief guest.
Tamilnet Conference, Chennai - 2004
Kanithamizh Sangam has conducted Sixth Tamil Internet
International Conference at Anna University. This conference is jointly compiled with Tamil Virtual
University and INFITT. Tamilnadu Chief Minister and International
delegates are participated in this event.
Tamil Inayam 2003
The Sangam spearheaded the organisation of Tamil Inayam 2003 - the Sixth International Conference on Tamil Computing. Members also presented technical papers on Tamil Computing. Many of the corporate members also exhibited their products in the exhibition which saw quite a number of people from all walks of life.
Exhibition at Anand Theatre (2001)
Kanithamizh Sangam conducted an exhibition to promote Tamil computing products and solutions to the public in Anand Theatre Complex in Chennai. The cosmopolitan city of Chennai was pleasantly surprised to see such products like full fledged productivity suite, optical character recognition software and small business software in Tamil.
Kanipori Thiruvizhaa in Madurai (2000)
In this watershed event, Kanithamizh Sangam brought the people of Tamil Nadu to IT. In this mega event companies and government agencies demonstrated the emerging technologies to bridge the digital divide. The response from the public was unprecedented for a technical event which saw lakhs of people thronging the venue for three days.
Standardisation (1999)
The Sangam actively participated in the finalizing process of standardization of Tamil encoding systems and keyboard layouts. Spending many previous days, the members of the Sangam tested the draft standards released during the TamilNet99 meet. They incorporated many changes in the draft and submitted the recommendations to the standardization committee. Its finding and solutions were accepted. Finally, the Chief Minister of TamilNadu announced the Government decision on accepting the standards. It released the Government order in a well attended 'acceptence function', at the Secretariat of state government.
In the function chaired by the Chief Minister, the Vice President of Sangam Mr. P. Chellapan delivered a speech on behalf of Sangam. He promised the government that the developers would accept the uniform input systems.
Free Tamil Software (1999)
The Sangam presented a free copy of Tamil Software named as kanithamizh99, to the Chief Minister. The Software was the first software adhering the standardized Tamil glyph encoding and provided two free fonts. The software is available as a free download from this site. The members of the Sangam met the CM and demonstrated the freeware.
The Name and Fame of Sangam transcend national barriers (1999)
Representatives of conference committee of Tamil Inaiyam 2000 from SriLanka visited TamilNadu led by the Srilankan Minister Mr. Thondaman. A delegation spent a whole day with Sangam members at the premises of Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai. The developers offered demos of their products. The SriLankan delegation appreciated the developers and invited the Sangam members to market their products/services in their country where the second biggest Tamil Population live.
Immediately after this an IT delegation from Singapore came to Chennai and met the Sangam Members. The delegation wanted to find the potential software developing companies and was ready to invite them for joint ventures with Singapore companies.
Assisting the government initatives regarding development of Tamil Computing
The Government of Tamil Nadu asked the Sangam to be the nodal agency to issue certificates to products which adhered standardized encoding and keyboard layouts. Taking this an unique opportunity, the Sangam today started to test and certify the software and hardware products. The Sangam was also invited to take part in the decision making process in offering development fund for Tamil Software.
TamilNet 99
TamilNadu government convened the second international symposium, Tamil Net 99, at Chennai on Feb 7-8, 1999. This was a turning point in the history of Tamil Language development in general and Tamil computing in particular. In this conference both the experts and official representatives of Tamil Diaspora countries determined to standardize Tamil Encoding and Keyboard layout schemes. |
